While the biblical account in Genesis dedicates merely three verses to Eve’s decision to eat the forbidden fruit, Milton expands this moment into an elaborate psychological drama that spans hundreds of lines in Book IX of his epic. Through detailed internal monologues, emotional responses, and rational deliberations, Milton presents Eve’s temptation not as a simple moral failure but as a complex psychological process involving vanity, intellectual curiosity, flawed reasoning, and emotional vulnerability.
